The new PlayStation VR glasses would be equipped with eye tracking, UploadVR reports. This allows the virtual reality headset to register what users are watching.

This has the advantage that the glasses can focus parts of the screen based on what the wearer is looking at. The area around it is displayed in lower resolution and is therefore more blurry. This makes virtual reality games more detailed without the need for much more powerful computers.

According to UploadVR, the glasses would have a total resolution of 4,000×2,040 pixels, good for 2,000×2,040 pixels per eye. That is a significant increase compared to Sony’s previous VR glasses for the PlayStation. It had a resolution of 1,920×1,080 pixels, or 960×1,080 pixels per eye. The more pixels, the sharper the image.

Sony announced in February that it was working on new PlayStation VR glasses for the PlayStation 5. The new headset works with one cable and gets an improved controller. The company had previously reported that the resolution of the glasses would be increased.

It is not yet known when the virtual reality headset will appear and how much it should cost. According to the company, there is still a lot of work to be done; the glasses will therefore not appear in 2021.
