By September, the satellite internet service Starlink should be operational worldwide. Starlink director Gwynne Shotwell announced this, Reuters news agency writes on Tuesday.

“We have successfully deployed approximately 1,800 satellites. Once all those satellites reach operational orbit, we will have continuous global coverage, which should be achievable by September,” Shotwell said at a technology conference.

In May, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk said he had received more than half a million preorders for the service.

SpaceX is developing a broadband internet system of twelve thousand satellites with Starlink to provide paying customers worldwide with fast internet. This should offer a solution in particular in areas where there are currently hardly any internet connections.

Starlink costs the first users 99 euros per month. In addition, people have to pay 499 euros in advance to buy a Starlink Kit. This includes a WiFi router and an antenna for a connection to the satellites.
