The self-driving function of the Tesla that crashed in the US state of Texas last month was believed to have been disabled, according to a preliminary report from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). Two men were killed in the accident.

According to the police, the 2019 Tesla Model S flew out of the corner at great speed, came to a stop against a tree and then caught fire. According to the police, no one was driving the vehicle at the time, because the occupants were in the front passenger seat and the back seat.

After the accident, the police assumed that Autopilot, Tesla’s self-driving function, was on at the time. The NTSB’s investigation now shows that this most likely was not the case. The self-driving function was not available on the road where the accident happened.

According to the NTSB, it is possible that the cruise control was on, but that has yet to be investigated. At the moment it is unclear why no one was behind the wheel. The NTSB hopes to release a more comprehensive report later this year.

Recently, several Teslas have crashed in the United States. There are currently dozens of investigations into the car brand in the country.
